Del Sante Calisthenic & Dancing College was established in the 1960s by Rosaria Day. She believed the various facets – calisthenics, jazz and tap – complemented each other, gymnastic, classical ballet, so all were offered at Del Sante. The club works hard to support its members so they can develop their skills both now and for future years.
The Club has tutored many State Graceful Calisthenics Competitor winners, as well as gaining excellent results at State Solo Competitions and Pupil Skills Examinations.
Del Sante has taken many teams on country and interstate trips, with excellent results, including Ballarat, including winning many aggregates. The club has grown stronger throughout the years and now competes in Championship and Division 1 sections. It was the start of a successful affiliation and the club joined the Calisthenics Association of South Australia, competing in B Grade.
In 1986, Del Sante Calisthenics (Henley & Kooyong Clubs) amalgamated with Woodville Gardens Calisthenics. Michelle also coached the Henley Calisthenics Club (an affiliated club of Del Sante).
In 1977, Rosaria retired and the Calisthenics College was taken over by Michelle Capel, who remains the Principal Coach.
The best students selected from Rosaria’s two calisthenics clubs – Kooyong and Port Adelaide competed as Del Sante at the Royal South Street Eisteddfods in Ballarat. (more).
