Raptis was established in the 1950’s in Adelaide, South Australia where a trivial family fish and chip shop turned into one of the largest privately owned seafood companies in Australia. Our facilities in Adelaide provide for efficient handling and dispatching of our seafood throughout Australia. Our important infrastructure at Karumba allows us to unload and distribute fresh and frozen seafood to our Brisbane operation, regional centers and interstate customers. In addition we have a little retail outlet in Karumba that services locals and tourists to this region. The Darwin and Cairns branches of Raptis are acquisition offices from where a wide range of seafood is purchased from the local fishing community which Raptis then process, sell and distribute through the Brisbane facility. As a migrant worker in the 1930’s Arthur Raptis Senior (Sr) sought employment in the industry he knew superior fishing. In the 1950’s the family moved to Adelaide and opened a fish and chip shop. The company is proudly owned by the Raptis Family and has established an international reputation for responsible fishing and the supply of quality seafood products. Raptis is an Accredited Member of Friend of the Sea, an international nonprofit non government organization, who yield international certification for products originating from sustainable fisheries, and that are caught using fishing practices that encourage sustainable seafood resources. At Raptis we are dedicated to responsible fishing practices that labor towards ensuring Australia's fisheries are managed in an ecologically sustainable manner. AMA has set out guidelines regarding sustainable fishing practices including, size limits, gear restrictions, temporal and spatial closures, marine pollution and entire allowable catch. Raptis is an Accredited Member of Friend of the Sea, an international nonprofit, non government organization, who yield international certification for products originating from sustainable fisheries, and that are caught using fishing practices that promote sustainable seafood resources. Raptis has also fitted each trawl net with a Turtle exclude Device (TED) to reduce our impact on non target species. A TED is a metal grid that is placed in the trawl net to act as a guide that allows turtles, sharks and other important marine life to escape the net through a nearby opening. We comprehend the importance of sustainable fishing practices and look forward to providing wild caught seafood for tomorrow generations of consumers to enjoy. Multiple opportunities are available at the begin of every season. For Mate, Deckhand and Cook positions, at sea experience required. Expressions of interest for crewing positions are passed along to Skippers who are self-reliant contractors responsible for the operations of the vessels and selection of their own crew. The Northern Prawn Fishery is Australia's largest and maximum cherished fishery. These vessels are supported with on shore administration and Engineering Services. For Deckhand and Cook positions, at sea experience required.
